The Forthside Vegetable Research Facility, based within the major vegetable cropping region of North-West Tasmania, is an invaluable site for a diverse range of vegetable and allied crop research trials.
The farm showcases SMARTFarm technology, where on-farm devices provide a proof-of-concept for farmers who can see firsthand how new technologies can help create efficiencies and improve environmental outcomes.
Forthside has an enduring history and is home to a unique research trial site which has been assessing the impact of rotational cropping systems and winter cover crops on soil health, crop productivity and pest, disease and weed management for more than 15 years. Trials of such duration are rare, and the results indicate the value of long-term thinking in relation to maintenance of productive working soils.
There will be presentations, tours, demonstrations, and an opportunity to network.
