The Big Day of Science brings together QVMAG and scientists from the Launceston and Northern Tasmanian community and showcases the science that is happening all around us.

The event includes staffed hands-on display by QVMAG highlighting interesting objects from our collection viewed through microscopes and magnifiers.

Hands-on science activities around the theme of glass including:

  • Exploring with prisms
  • Do you see what I see - exploring with lenses
  • Is it hot in here - double glazing experiment
  • Solar panels
  • A range of science displays and activities by groups in the local community
  • Showing the film From Sand to Glass (see below)
  • Have a go: bead making workshop run by Glass Manifesto
  • Static display of interesting and intriguing glass objects from QVMAG collection
  • Planetarium shows.
