Call Me By My Name: Film Screening and Q&A
Public screening of short films made by LGBTIQA+ Tasmanian students on the topic of: Growing up Queer in Tasmania, and Gender & Sexuality
In celebration of Wear It Purple Day 2022, come and watch two short films that account for the collective experience of Tasmanian students. Following a SOLD OUT screening in nipaluna/Hobart in May, we are excited to bring the films to the North and North West for the first time to present two exclusive screenings in Burnie and Launceston:
BURNIE 4:00PM FRIDAY 5 AUG at West Park Field Building, Room 126, Cradle Coast campus
LAUNCESTON 11:30AM SATURDAY 6 AUG at the Sir Raymond Ferrall Centre, Newnham campus
Approx. 8 min each in duration, these short documentaries speak to the commonly asked questions of educators, service providers and parents. Following the screening there will be a panel comprised of students who participated in the film, moderated by Xris Reardon the lead LGBTIQA+ school’s inclusion officer for Working It Out.
The films are intended to be used as resources for teacher education in schools (in Tasmania). Money raised is to help pay for further editing of individual narratives and the creation of a school resource.
Watch, listen and learn from the participants.
Important information for attendees:
- From 15th January 2022, anyone coming to our campuses, facilities and events is required to be fully vaccinated or have an exemption.
- Please arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the event start time, with your tickets/QR code open and ready to scan upon entry.
At the University of Tasmania we are working hard towards creating a place where all of us, no matter how we identify, feel valued, respected and safe. It is well known that when we can be our full selves, when we can be authentic and open about who we are, we are at our best. In turn, we are then more productive, feel happier, and have greater levels of loyalty and engagement. Read more about our Inclusion, Diversity and Equity Principles here
Wear It Purple strives to foster supportive, safe, empowering and inclusive environments for rainbow young people. The 2022 theme for Wear It Purple Day (26 August) is Still Me, Still Human. Find out more and get involved here
