Because of limited staff numbers, the School does not offer Ancient Greek 1 from its own resources. Instead, the unit is offered externally through the University of New England with study support being offered in Hobart in place of compulsory participation in a four-day residential school in Armidale. It is recommended that only students who have completed Latin 1 or a similar language course enrol in Ancient Greek 1.
Students successfully completing this unit will be granted automatic credit towards their University of Tasmania degree course (ie 25% at level 100 [Ancient Greek]).
It is essential that students intending to enrol in this unit notify the head of the Classics Discipline in August, 2002.
A major sequence in Ancient Greek consists of 25% at level 100 units, plus 75% of level 200/300 units a total of 100%. At least 25% of units must be at level 300.
