Information relevant to 2003 Course Specifications
Graduate Certificate of Education (GradCertEd)
||Candidates for the Graduate Certificate of Education shall be qualified for entry if they have obtained one of the following:
||a bachelor degree in Education;
||a bachelor degree in another faculty, together with the Diploma of Education or Bachelor of Teaching;
||such other qualification or combination of qualifications which
||includes a component of professional experience;
||required at least three years of full-time study or its equivalent in a university or other tertiary institution approved by the Faculty of Education; and
||is considered by the Faculty to be the equivalent of the qualification described in paragraph 1 [i] or [ii] of these specifications;
||in the case of certain specialisations, a bachelor degree or equivalent and professional experience acceptable to the dean.
||A candidate for the Certificate must have a minimum of one year of acceptable professional experience.
||In special cases the Faculty may accept a candidate for the Certificate who does not satisfy the normal entry requirements but has qualifications and relevant professional experience, which it deems to be a suitable preparation for admission to the course. In such cases, the Faculty may require the candidate to undergo such preliminary studies as it considers appropriate.
||Candidates for the Certificate shall complete the requirements, as hereinafter prescribed, in not less than half of one year of full-time study (or its equivalent) and not more than 18 months from the time of first enrolment.
||To qualify for the Certificate, the candidate shall satisfactorily complete a course of study prescribed by the Faculty. A candidate shall pass 4 units chosen from one of the Schedules accompanying these specifications.
||The units which may be included in a course for the Certificate shall, unless otherwise approved by the dean, be in accordance with Schedules accompanying these specifications. Schedule A contains all Graduate Certificate units while the remaining Schedules are for specific specialisations.
||Where two or more units of the same name or content are offered within the University, only one may be counted towards the certificate.
||In every case the candidates choice of units and the order in which they are taken shall be subject to approval by the dean in accordance with these specifications and the accompanying schedules.
||A candidate who has already counted towards a Graduate Certificate of Education granted by the University or other tertiary institution a unit or units considered by the Faculty to be the equivalent of some or all of those in the schedules shall be required to complete alternative subjects of the same or greater value in the same field or fields of study as approved by the dean.
Credit for previous studies
||Passes in subjects or units in other courses (completed or otherwise) in this University or another approved tertiary institution (or other approved professional examining body) may be credited towards the Certificate, provided that the Faculty may specify what more a candidate so credited shall be required to do to qualify for the award.
||The Faculty may from time to time make amendments to the Schedules to these specifications.
||These specifications shall take effect on 1 January 2001 and shall apply to all candidates for the Certificate, including those enrolling for the first time in that year and those enrolled subsequently. Candidates who enrolled prior to 2001 will not be disadvantaged in any way by the introduction of these specifications.
||The approved abbreviation for the Graduate Certificate of Education shall be GradCertEd.
