Information relevant to 2003 – Course Specifications

Graduate Certificate of Human Movement (GradCertHM)

Course details (E5J)


1 Candidates for the degree of Graduate Certificate of Human Movement shall be qualified for entry if they have obtained one of the following:
[i] a bachelor degree in Education (Health, PE, or related specialisation), Bachelor of Human Movement, Bachelor of Applied Science (Exercise and Sports Science);
[ii] such other qualifications and experience deemed by the Faculty to provide a preparation for study equivalent to that provided for by the prescriptions in paragraph 1.
2 Candidates for the Certificate must have a minimum of one year of acceptable professional experience.
3 Candidates for the Certificate shall complete the requirements, as hereinafter prescribed, in not less than half of one year full-time study (or its equivalent) and not more than four years, from the time of first enrolment.

Course structure

4 To qualify for the Certificate, the candidate shall satisfactorily complete a course of study prescribed by the Faculty. A candidate shall pass a total of 4 units from the Schedule accompanying these specifications and in accordance with the structure options described in the Schedule.
5 The units which may be included in a course for the Certificate shall, unless otherwise approved by the dean, be in accordance with Schedule accompanying these specifications.
6 Where two or more units of the same name or content are offered within the University, only one may be counted towards the degree.
7 In every case the candidate’s choice of units and the order in which they are taken shall be subject to approval by the dean in accordance with the specifications and accompanying schedule.
8 A candidate who has already counted towards a Graduate Certificate of Human Movement granted by the University or other tertiary institution a unit or units considered by the faculty to be equivalent of some or all of those in the schedule shall be required to complete alternative units in the same field or fields of study as approved by the dean.

Credit for Previous Studies

9 Passes in subjects or units in other courses (completed or otherwise) in this University or another approved tertiary institution (or other approved professional examining body) may be credited towards the Certificate, provided that the Faculty may specify what more a candidate so credited shall be required to do to qualify for the Certificate.


10 The Faculty may from time to time make amendments to the Schedules to these specifications.
11 These specifications shall take effect on 1 January 2003 and shall apply to all candidates for the Certificate.
12 The approved abbreviation for the Graduate Certificate of Human Movement shall be GradCertHM.
