About the Speaker

Professor Foster is a sleep researcher and Head of the Nuffield Laboratory of Ophthalmology, Director of the Sleep and Circadian Research Institute and is a Fellow of Brasenose College Oxford. His research addresses how circadian rhythms and sleep are generated and regulated and what happens when these systems fail as a result of societal pressures or disease. His key discoveries include the identification of the third retinal photoreceptor that regulates circadian rhythms and sleep. Professor Foster has published over 250 scientific papers, received multiple national and international awards, has written four popular science books and gives regular TED talks.

Masterclass and Head of School seminar

Professor Foster will also give a Masterclass and a Head of School Seminar while he is in Hobart.

The Masterclass will give early career Biomedical Researchers the opportunity to workshop their science and their career aspirations with Professor Foster and is open to senior PhD students, postdoctoral fellows and junior academic staff.
