Can I transfer between clinical schools once I have started studying at one of them but want to change my selection?

Normally transfers between clinical schools are not approved. However, you can apply to the Coordinator of Student Development and Support at the Tasmanian School of Medicine for an appointment to discuss your situation. Transfer requests are judged on a case-by-case basis.

Can I withdraw from my studies if I experience any difficulties?

In the first instance, make an appointment with a the Coordinator of Student Support, a student Academic Adviser, University counsellor or Unit Coordinator to discuss your particular circumstances, depending on who you feel can help. They may refer you to other services or people who can assist. Withdrawal from study is managed through a central University of Tasmania process, so you should always seek advice before taking this step.

If I have a disability, do I have to disclose it?

Many of the courses at the College of Health and Medicine have what is called Mandatory Functional Requirements (PDF360.1KB). Consult these first and then talk to a College of Health and Medicine PEP Compliance Officer about Safety in Practice if you have any doubt about whether you meet the mandatory requirements.

What should my first point of contact be if I have any problems in my studies?

For academic matters you can:

  • Book an appointment with a University of Tasmania Student Learning Advisor. An Advisor is available in the Medical Sciences Building and can be contacted by email on Health.AdviserHbt@utas.edu.au
  • Contact the Coordinator of Student Development and Support for the Medicine program
  • Consult with one of your Unit Coordinators
  • Contact TUMSS for advice

The approach you might take will depend upon your level of concern.
