Subpoena

Staff within Legal Services at the University of Tasmania are authorised to receive subpoenas for the production of documents.

Legal Services cannot accept service of subpoenas to attend to give evidence. Subpoenas to give evidence must be served directly on the individual called upon to give evidence.

Conduct Money

The prescribed amount of conduct money must be paid for all subpoenas. If the amount of conduct money is not prescribed then the minimum cost of handling a subpoena at the University of Tasmania is $75.00. Payment must be provided upon service of the subpoena.

The minimum amount covers up to 2 hours of staff time searching records, copying/scanning up to 100 pages and delivery of the documents to the court or tribunal. If the time involved and records located go beyond these, the University may contact you to discuss payment of additional costs as follows:

  • professional staff time at $275 per hour
  • administrative staff time at $75 per hour
  • photocopying documents at $0.20 per page
