Kit Hiller

Christine Mary Hiller (b 1948), landscape and portrait painter, printmaker, lives and works at Lower Mount Hicks, Tasmania. Recognised nationally for her watercolour portraits, winning the Portia Geach prize in 1986 and 1987, her work was exhibited in the Archibald Prize, Art Gallery of New South Wales between 1982 and 1986.

Hiller studied at the Tasmanian School of Art from 1966 to 1968. She works in a range of media and her large-format watercolour portraits are characterised by decorative and symbolic aspects of composition and a combination of natural and abstract formal elements. Hand-coloured linocuts, detailed mixed media dioramas and large oils represent major areas of Hiller's oeuvre. Christine Hiller's work is represented in major collections in Australia, and overseas.
