Set up MyLO Grades for recording of student engagement

  1. Select Grades from your unit's MyLO site's navbar
  2. Select the Schemes tab
  3. Select the New Scheme button
  4. Enter Student Engagement Activities in the Name field
  5. Enter Not Yet Completed in the #1 Symbol field and select the Colour red
  6. Enter Completed in the #2 Symbol field, enter a Start % of 1,  and select the Colour green
  7. Select the rubbish bin icon at the end of the #3 range
  8. Select the Save and Close button
  9. Select the Manage Grades tab
  10. Select the New button and select Category from the drop down menu
  11. Enter Student Engagement Activities in the Name field
  12. Enter 0 in the Weight field *
  13. Select the Distribute weight evenly across all items radio button
  14. Select the Save and Close button
  15. Select the New button and select Item from the drop down menu
  16. Select the Selectbox link
  17. Enter Student Engagement Activity 1 in the Name field
  18. Select the Student Engagement Activities option from the Category drop down menu
  19. Set Maximum Points to 1
  20. Set the Grade Scheme to Student Engagement Activities
  21. Select the Save and Close button
  22. Select the New button and select Item from the drop down menu
  23. Select the Selectbox link
  24. Enter Student Engagement Activity 2 in the Name field
  25. Set the Category to Student Engagement Activities (using the drop down menu)
  26. Set Maximum Points to 1
  27. Set the Grade Scheme to Student Engagement Activities (using the drop down menu)
  28. Select the Save and Close button

If one of your activities is a MyLO Quiz you will need to select the Numeric link at either step 16 or step 23, instead of the Selectbox link. You will also then have to set the Maximum Points to the corresponding Quiz maximum points, instead of 1. All other steps will remain the same.

* Note: If you do not get the option to add a Weight it is probably because your current Gradebook is set up to be Points or Formula rather than Weighted. You can easily change this by going to grades/ Set-up wizard. Change from Points/Formula to Weighted and change the organisation scheme to UTAS grades. Once this is done you can then fix up the weight in your new student engagement items.
If you want to keep the Points as your Grade set-up then please tick the option to “Exclude from Final Grade Calculation” in the Category and both of the grade items. This has the same effect as weighting to 0.
