For Sri Lankan student Shanel Sun, Tasmania has everything she needs to have an awesome student life. In fact, she says Tassie is “heaven on earth”.

“I’m undertaking my Master of Finance, specialising in Data Management at the University of Tasmania. I am finding it challenging yet rewarding. The program is quite intensive, but I know I am getting closer to my goal,” she said.

Shanel says postgrad study is a lot of work and “the pressure is real” but she is up to the challenge.

I believe that a dream doesn’t become reality through magic, it takes sweat, determination, and hard work.

“I love working with students who take the same courses as me, because it gives me an insight to the subject from their point of view and it helps me learn.”

Shanel said student life for her is “very exciting”.

I absolutely love life as an international student in Tasmania. The people are super friendly, the town is entirely navigable by foot, and you’ll never find yourself lost.

“I am honoured to be a part of such a diverse community and share my culture while learning and experiencing everyone else’s beautiful heritage,” she said.

When she’s not in classes, Shanel is either working out or exploring the Tassie wilderness. She’s also working part time as an assistant accountant.

“The Unigym is my most favourite place to go to while I’m off Uni. The high-performance classes are well structured, and the trainers are professional and helpful!

I got the chance to explore Tasmania and it is completely underrated! Tasmania is heaven on Earth indeed.

“It’s always a breath-taking view at any time of the day. I personally believe Tasmania has so much to offer to anyone who will give it a chance.”
