Silvy Yang came to the University of Tasmania to study the Master of Marketing Management after several years of experience in marketing and communications positions.

“My work was mostly focused on brand design management, and I found that increasingly, my work required a greater understanding in marketing and strategic planning.

"The Master of Marketing Management has deepened my knowledge and opened up new opportunities, allowing me to take my career to the next level,” Silvy said.

As an international student, Silvy has had a unique experience relocating to Hobart to take her master’s course at the Sandy Bay campus.

Living and studying in Hobart is so convenient. Being here is quite unlike anywhere else.

“The lifestyle is beautiful – enjoying the sea view while working on assignments in the Centenary Building, and on weekends it’s so easy to get away from the city to embrace nature.”

The postgraduate course provides connections to local industry professionals and gives students the opportunity to hone the practical skills that prepare them for real-world, workplace scenarios.

“The school has great links with the local business community, and with the help of my lecturers, I’ve been introduced to business opportunities which have led to ongoing work.

I would definitely recommend the course to anyone generally interested in marketing, wanting to move up the corporate ladder, or are looking to start their own business. Marketing is one of the fundamentals that makes any business successful, so it’s crucial for professionals in an organisation to know how and why it works.

Students of the Master of Marketing Management can apply the skills gained in their degree in a corporate internship program and practical workplace projects.

“I think studying with TSBE (the Tasmanian School of Business and Economics) was a great starting point for me, and I’m very grateful for all the support I’ve received.”
