The top 5 chill things to do in Tasmania at springtime

The days are getting longer and lighter and the scent of flowers is in the air. It’s spring in Tasmania!

In Tassie we’re lucky to live in one of the world’s most unique and stunning locations. There’s something to do all year round in our state, but spring is particularly beautiful!

Here’s some of our top picks of how to relax and celebrate spring in Tassie.

1. See the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens in full bloom

What better place to experience the full glory of spring than the beautiful Botanical Gardens? Visit the historic superintendent’s college, chill out in the Sub Antarctic Plant House (the only collection of its kind on the planet) and walk among the many beautiful flower beds, trees and water features. The gardens are open 8am-5pm during May-September, and entry is free. Take a picnic lunch and sit on the lawn for a relaxing-and very affordable-afternoon!

2. See some artisans at work, and then walk on the beach

The Makers Workshop on Burnie’s stunning foreshore has a lot of things going for it: you can visit the workshop and see artisans at work in the space and buy their creations. You can also just wander along some of the most beautiful coastline you’re likely to ever see.

3. Experience a new side of Bruny Island

We all know that Bruny Island is stunning all year round…but during Spring there’s something extra special about this beautiful island. It’s the breeding season for whales and fur seals, so there’s a chance you might see them frolicking in the water…especially if you take a boat ride from the island! There’s also the usual great activities to do on Bruny, so cruise around, visit the beaches, and make sure you try some of the excellent cheese and wine available on the island.

4. Get crafty at Deloraine

Deloraine is where craft becomes cool. No longer just doilies and tea cosies, craft these days means incredible art, covetable jewellery, and delicious locally-made food.

The Deloraine Craft Fair is a Tassie spring tradition. This massive event showcases more than 200 artisans and around 20,000 visitors enjoy the fair every year.

5. Get lost in a sea of tulips

Tassie’s tulip season is from late September to early October, and Wynard in the State’s north-west is the place to absorb yourself in their colourful splendour. Visit the Table Cape Tulip Farm and see more than 80 kinds of tulip. And there’s even the Bloomin Tulips Festival with three weeks of food, fun and music!
