Last year, the Tasmanian School of Business and Economics (TSBE) received accreditation from AACSB International, the highest standard of achievement for business schools worldwide.

AACSB (formerly The Association for the Advancement of Collegiate Schools of Business) is the world’s leading accreditation program for post-secondary business schools, with only 5 per cent currently accredited.

Interim Executive Dean of the College of Business and Economics Stuart Crispin said the accreditation confirmed that Tasmania’s business school – built on partnerships with local business and industry – was delivering teaching and research at the highest level.

“We are incredibly proud to be accredited by AACSB,” Associate Professor Crispin said. “It reflects not only the qualities and standards of our business school but also indicates that we are performing at a global level.

“Tasmanians can be confident that they can get an outstanding business education right here at home and so can people from elsewhere who are looking for an innovative, distinctive place to study.”

The accreditation highlights the importance of TSBE’s placed-based, local business driven approach to research, teaching and engagement, which was praised by AACSB as a core feature of the school’s current and future direction.

“Our mission is to lead research and learning in business and economics to benefit our local, regional and global communities,” Associate Professor Crispin said.

“We work in partnership with local businesses and industry stakeholders to provide an outstanding, distinctively Tasmanian education for our students, and to support the economic health of our community.”

To attain this accreditation, AACSB asks schools to demonstrate their commitment to continuous improvement and their alignment with standards around the quality of teaching, learning, research, and engagement over several years.

“With this accreditation, we join an elite group of business schools united to improve the quality of business education around the world.”
