Stage 1: Library and Student Experience building and the bridge
The Library and Student Experience building will be in the heart of the Inveresk Precinct, nestled between The Annexe and the School of Creative Arts. Construction is currently being undertaken by local firm Vos Constructions, scheduled for completion by the end of 2021. This stage will provide resources and support for existing and future students during the transition to Inveresk. Engineered timber will be used for the structure. The sawtooth roof lines and industrial materials blend into the Inveresk environment. Designed by John Wardle Architects to be open and welcoming for students, staff and the community, it includes:
- Student services
A new pedestrian and cycle bridge will cross the river to Boland Street, linking the campus to the city. In Stage 1, there will be exits onto the existing pathway. As a second stage, the bridge will be extended across the road and through to Willis Street by 2024.
Construction of the bridge has been awarded to principal contractor BridgePro as a design and construct project. Construction commenced in February 2020 and the first stage was officially opened in September 2021.
The bridge which will span between Inveresk (behind the existing student accommodation) across to Boland St is crucial to linking the Inveresk Precinct with the heart of the city, providing safe accessible access for pedestrians and cyclists.
