Policy principles

Policy principles must be consistent with but not duplicate University ordinances, the University By-Laws, legislation, regulatory and other compliance requirements.

A policy principle is required where there is a need to direct decision making, beyond existing compliance requirements.

Policy principles must:

  • be in plain English and succinct such that they are clear and understandable
  • be clear about who they apply to
  • use active language
  • describe the what and the who, not the how
  • not be duplicated
  • be grouped into policies in a way that is meaningful, logical and maximises discoverability.
