Professor Alireza Ghiasvand is a Senior Research Associate in the Australian Centre for Research on Separation Science (School of Natural Science, Chemistry). He is interested in the field of separation science, chromatography, nanomaterials, and microextraction.

Biography

Ali completed his BSc in Applied Chemistry (1994), followed by MSc (1996) and PhD (2000) in Analytical Chemistry (Tehran, Iran) with supervision of Prof. Mojtaba Shamsipur. Alireza joined Prof. Janusz Pawliszyn (Waterloo, Canada) as a postdoctoral researcher to work on “Solid-Phase Microextraction” in 2006. He established his own research group in 2001 and a knowledge-based company (Nano-Green-Chemistry) in 2010. He was promoted to full-professor level in 2008, as the youngest Iranian Professor. He has published over 130 papers, over 27 Iranian Patents and 8 US Patents. He has developed some new devices for instrumental analysis and their commercial prototypes. Ali has received different national and international awards. He had different executive positions in Lorestan University such as General Director of Research Affaires and Head of the Faculty of Sciences. He joined ACROSS as a University Associate in 2018 and now is a Senior Research Associate.

Research Themes

Alireza’s research interests and expertise are separation sciences, synthesis and characterization of nanomaterials, microextraction (SPME, LPME, NTD, INCAT), instrumentation, microfluidic, chromatography (GC-MS, HPLC-MS), SFE and SFC, atomic and molecular spectrometry (UV-Vis, AAS, ET-AAS, HG-AAS, ICP), capillary electrophoresis, and bipolar electrochemistry.

Collaboration

During the eighteen years research and teaching career in Iran, Ali has had close and productive research collaborations with different industries (like Behnoush Brewery Co., Magnolia Flavor and Fragrance Co., Khorraman Pharmaceutical Co., Jahangir Pharmaceutical & Hygienic Co., Parsylon Textile Co.) and State Organizations (e.g., Institute of Standards and Industrial Research, Food and Drug Administration, Iranian Legal Medicine Organization, Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade, Agricultural Jihad Organization, Water and Wastewater Company, and Lorestan Science & Technology Park). Ali is now collaborating with NIFPI (National Institute for Forest Products Innovation) in Tasmania.
