Dr Hossein Enshaei is a senior lecturer at the Australian Maritime College, an institute of University of Tasmania. His interest is in the field of marine technologies.

Biography

Hossein is a Master mariner and sailed on ocean going vessels as a navigator for 13 years. In 1999 he joined a marine training institute as a lecturer and soon became head of Deck Department. While working in the training sector, he obtained his BEng in Mechanical Engineering and MSc in Naval Architecture.

In 2004 he joined ship building industries and worked as a Hull and Machinery superintendent to supervise, manage and lead three ship-building and ship-conversion projects in 3 years.

Hossein was awarded his PhD qualification in 2013, while working as research associate and lecturer at the School of Marine Science and Technology at Newcastle University, in the UK. During this time he contributed to a number of research projects at regional, national and international level.

Hossein commenced with UTAS in July 2014 as a senior lecturer in AMC-NCPS.

Hossein's research interests are in ship's dynamic stability and marine informatics. He performs advanced research on ship systems, and develops decision making tools using mathematical modelling, simulation and optimisation techniques. He has interest in research over technological aspect of the Ballast Water management systems.

Investigating seafarer training needs for operating autonomous ships (2019 - 2020)$60,000
Description
This research will conduct an extensive investigation to identify the education and training requirements for seafarers who will operate the autonomous ships in the near future. The findings of this research will provide guidelines and a recommendatory framework which can be used by the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) and the maritime regulators to revise training needs towards mentoring seafarers and equipping them with the expertise required.

City Parking Assistance APP Using IoT - GotIT (2019 - 2020)$4,500
Description
Lack of parking is one of the biggest challenges in modern cities, and adding more parking spaces is not possible in certain areas. A promising approach is to also use the available spaces more efficiently, with real-time information key to implementing such a solution. While certain products available locally provide such information, they do not show availability on navigation software apps such as Google Maps. This project aims to fill this gap using an IoT-based novel technique, and will eliminate stress in motorists, improve traffic congestion, and promote efficient use of resources in healthier and friendly smart cities.
