- Description
- This project will identify more precisely the time of the entry of dingoes into Australia and will investigate theirimpact on the lives of Indigenous Australians. Archaeological and anthropological evidence suggests that Indigenous people rapidly incorporated dingoes into their lives. Dingoes were used for a variety of purposes and were particularly valued as hunters by women, effectively increasing their access to meat. Impact would include a re-organisation of gender roles and an associated improvement in women's fecundity. By examining evidence for such changes, this project will significantly contribute to knowledge about implications of the arrival of a living technology in Australia and, more generally, the human/dog relationship.

- Description
- Radiocarbon dating is essential for understanding when and why faunal change occurred in the Late Quaternary. I frequently apply radiocarbon dating methods to fossil assemblages. However, my use of the technique would be improved by training in how geochronologists process specimens.Dr Rachel Wood works at a world-class Accelerator Mass Spectrometer radiocarbon dating lab at ANU. I will work with Dr Wood to process and date several bone specimens I have excavated from Tasmanian owl roost assemblages. This substantial career development opportunity will foster my understanding of radiocarbon dating methods, a technique that is central to my research trajectory.

- Description
- Land-bridge islands are often overlooked in conservation research; however, these unique environments are home to some of Australia's most endangered avian fauna. The principal aim of this project is to understand how drivers, such as isolation, climate change and habitat modification, impact woodland bird communities on land bridge islands and resulted in the extinction and endangerment of these species.
