Between 1965 and 1967 he worked in various English repertory companies and then for three years in a long-running West End play, Spring and Port Wine. From 1969 to 1972 he worked with the National Theatre of Great Britain.

In 1985 he moved to Tasmania to help develop the new theatre course in the Centre for Drama Studies at the Tasmanian College of Advanced Education. This later became the Tasmanian State Institute of Technology before being amalgamated with the University of Tasmania.
