Dr Jyoti Chuckowree completed her PhD at the University of Tasmania in 2006. Following this she was awarded an NHMRC Overseas Post-Doctoral Training Fellowship. With this, she travelled to the University of Lausanne, Switzerland to complete her post-doc. In 2010 Dr Chuckowree returned to Tasmania and joined Associate Professor Tracey Dickson's Group at the Menzies Institute for Medical Research. Within The Dickson Group, Jyoti leads a project exploring brain plasticity following traumatic brain injury. She is currently investigating pharmacological interventions that may promote adaptive brain remodelling in the aftermath of an injury.

Biography

Jyoti Chuckowree completed her BSc, with first class honours at the University of Tasmania. On completion of her PhD, Jyoti commenced postdoctoral studies at the University of Lausanne, Switzerland. There, she took a position as a Premier Assistant, prior to returning to Tasmania in 2010. Dr Chuckowree currently works at the Menzies Institute for Medical Research as a Research Fellow.

Research Themes

Jyoti's research aligns to the University's research theme of Better Health. Her research interests include understanding how the brain undergoes structural remodelling following injury and how adaptive remodelling can be promoted by pharmacological intervention. To this end, Jyoti established an experimental platform for investigating brain plasticity, which resulted in securing an NHMRC project grant.

Publications

Dr Chuckowree has co-authored 11 publications with researchers at the University of Tasmania as well as the University of Lausanne and their collaborators. The main focus of her publications is neural degeneration and regeneration in injury and disease states. Dr Chuckowree has been invited to peer-review for the Journal of Neurotrauma.
