The Ice-Rock Interface Beneath the Great Ice Sheets of East Antarctica Using Seismic Waveforms

The Aurora Subglacial Basin and Knox Coast regions in Wilkes Land are emerging as some of the most vulnerable sectors within East Antarctica and feed the rapidly thinning Totten and Denman-Scott glaciers; however, very little is known of the interior subglacial environments. In my project, I aim to employ numerical simulations to investigate the sensitivity of seismic waveforms to the different materials and structures present at the ice-bedrock interface. The proceeding results are intended to inform how future active and passive seismic survey deployments can be optimised for the Antarctic basal environment, with a key outlook towards upcoming campaigns in the Aurora Basin region.
