Projects
- Description
- The project aims to develop new approaches to reconstruct the architecture of the volcanic host in hydrothermal ore deposits. Fingerprinting of volcanic units will be achieved through using novel, automated techniques of image analysis in addition to classical facies analysis and rock and mineral chemistry. This project will enhance mineral discovery through basin-scale lithostratigraphic reconstructions. Application of the technique to younger, undeformed volcanic units in New Zealand will improve exploration strategies in the much older southeasternAustralian continental crust. This study will provide significant benefit to the mining industry by diversifying exploration strategies to locate and extract ore deposits in Australia.
