Megan Alessandrini is an adjunct Senior Lecturer in Politics and Policy in the School of Social Sciences. Megan was founding Director of the Gender Policy and Strategy Group at UTAS [GPS] until 2016. Her research interests include women's policy, women's participation in the labour market and occupational segregation, as well as third sector policy and practice. She has also lectured in political activism, public policy, social policy and political theory.

Biography
Megan was the chief investigator in an ARC Linkage grant of $215,000: Reading the Social Future of the Australian Red Cross Blood Service. She was also on the research team for the NDLERF grant of $375,000 looking drug diversion implementation policy. In addition she was a co-chief investigator in the $45,000 local evaluation of the Tasmanian U-Turn program [Young Recidivist Car Theft Offenders Program]. She has extensive experience of evaluation of program delivery in the non-profit sector. Megan conducted research in 2011 for Unions Tasmania [$20,000] on the marginalization of women in the labour market and in 2012 for the Tasmanian Building and Construction Industry Training Board [TCBITB] on a gender analysis of the industry [$28,000].

Megan has taught at the undergraduate, honours and postgraduate level in the theory and practice of public policy and politics. Megan's research aligns with the University's research theme of Creativity, Culture and Society.
Collaboration
Megan has developed collaborative relationships with academics and practitioners in the United States, United Kingdom and Europe on gendered workloads. In 2014 she established the Gender Policy and Strategy community of practice group at University of Tasmania, an interdisciplinary academic group committed to sharing knowledge, resources and collaboration opportunities, enjoying considerable success in conference exposure, peer-reviewed book chapters and refereed journal publication.
Current projects
Megan has been appointed as an affiliated researcher with the Peter Underwood Centre for Educational Attainment. She is also currently collaborating with Associate Professor Angela Martin (UTAS) on the project 'Gendered Workloads', funded by a competitive grant from the UTAS Institute of Social Change ($43,000). The project combines academic and industry expertise to address women's role as co-preneurs. By enhancing their professional skills and developing their psychological and social capital, they aim to empower women co-preneurs, improve their social and economic wellbeing, and increase the resilience of their enterprises. In addition the GPS group was awarded a Teaching Development Grant ($20,000) for a project entitled 'Producing Graduates as Agents of Change: reducing the Gender Pay Gap' which focuses on the role of graduates in spearheading the solutions to the gender pay gap in the workplace.

Grants & Funding
She was the chief investigator in an ARC Linkage grant of $215,000: Reading the Social Future of the Australian Red Cross Blood Service. She was also on the research team for the NDLERF grant of $375,000 looking at drug diversion implementation policy. In addition she was a co-chief investigator in the $45,000 local evaluation of the Tasmanian U-Turn program [Young Recidivist Car Theft Offenders Program]. She has extensive experience of evaluation of program delivery in the non-profit sector. Megan conducted research in 2011 for Unions Tasmania [$20,000] on the marginalization of women in the labour market and in 2012 for the Tasmanian Building and Construction Industry Training Board [TCBITB] on a gender analysis of the industry [$28,000].
