Research Governance

Research governance ensures that the principles, requirements and standards of research are upheld.

It enables the protection of research participants, the safety and quality of research, privacy and confidentiality, legal and regulatory matters, risk management, and monitoring arrangements. Effective research governance promotes a positive research culture and sustainable practices that facilitate the conduct of high-quality research.

The University's Legal Compliance Framework ensures all legal obligations are identified, risk assessed and managed appropriately and that non compliances are reported and used to inform continuous improvement. The Research Governance Model and Process Frameworks have been developed based on the Legal Compliance Framework with a focus on research related obligations.

The Research Governance Office aims to work collaboratively with risk owners to develop, maintain and monitor standardised and functional frameworks to meet legal obligations.

Research Integrity

The University of Tasmania is deeply committed to creating and promoting a culture dedicated to delivering high quality, world-class research which contributes to the needs of Tasmanian, Australian, and global communities. This commitment is underpinned by the responsible and ethical conduct of all those engaged in or supporting research.

Research integrity is a fundamental aspect of research excellence and integral to all aspects of academic professional practice. The Code is a statement of principles aimed to guide institutions and researchers in responsible research practices and the promotion of research integrity. All persons (research students, research trainees, Higher Degree Research (HDR) candidates, research fellows, research assistant/associate, academic staff , professional staff, support staff, and technical staff) engaged in the conduct of research at the University are required to adhere to the Code and the University of Tasmania’s Responsible Conduct of Research Framework.

Support and information

Detailed information on research integrity, including education and training, resources, and support available can be found at Research integrity (staff intranet) for University staff, HDR candidates and undergraduate and postgraduate coursework students undertaking research.
