You are invited to participate in the Launceston heat for the Three Minute Thesis (3MT) Competition.

Heat details

  • Date: Monday 12 August 2019
  • Time: 2-4pm
  • Venue: Lecture Theatre 1, Building A, Newnham Campus

What is 3MT?

  • 3MT is an annual competition that challenges Higher Degree by Research (HDR) candidates to effectively explain their research in three minutes in a language appropriate to a non-specialist audience.
  • It is an excellent opportunity for candidates to develop their academic, presentation and research communication skills.
  • It can also generate media interest in the research, it’s fun and candidates can win amazing prizes!

When are the other 3MT events?

  • Hobart heat: 15 August, 2-5.30pm, Harvard Room 1, Centenary Building, Sandy Bay Campus
  • University Semi-Final: 23 August 2019, 10am - 12pm, Harvard Room 2, Centenary Building, Sandy Bay Campus
  • University Final: 3 September 2019, details TBC
  • Asia-Pacific Final: 4 October 2019

  • Eligible candidates can register to participate online until the 7th August here.

Can I come and watch?

  • Of course! Please come along to support our HDR candidates - no RSVP is required.
