Building Trust in Professional Relationships

This workshop is for professional staff. There is a vast body of literature documenting leadership styles and practices, much of which names trust as a vital component of good working relationships. But what is trust, and how do we build it in our teams and with our academic partners? Data gathered from the literature on trust and on how we demonstrate and develop trust in a professional context is used as a base for this participative workshop. We will look at what makes a colleague trustworthy, and how we can cultivate trust. The session will sensitively make space for discussion of the experiences of participants, offering a chance to reflect on practical ways forward. Participants will have the opportunity to:

  • Review the concept of trust as an indicator of good professional relationships;
  • Use a framework of trust to think about the utility of this in their own professional, and managerial relationships;
  • Discuss the specific behaviours they can employ to building trust with their colleagues and teams.
