The Research Project
This project forms part of a wider research agenda within the Discipline of Accounting focusing on voluntary accounting and reporting as a means to discharge accountabilities. In today’s economic uncertainty and with stakeholders demanding greater transparency, public sector organisations are coming under increasing pressure to incorporate social, environmental and governance reporting into their reporting mechanisms. Whilst the private sector has already taken up this form of reporting, in the public sector this is seen as an emerging field for inquiry. Potential topics in this area include (but are not limited to): a focus on the current state of voluntary reporting in the public sector; an examination of the voluntary reporting needs of public sector organisations and role of the accountant in extending and envisioning voluntary reporting.
