North-West locals who received an offer to study medicine at the University of Tasmania have been welcomed at the Rural Clinical School.
On Tuesday, 8 January, 12 local students considering a career as a doctor attended an information evening on site to learn about different pathways towards the profession.
The informal barbecue event provided students and their parents with information about the medical degree and studying in Hobart.
Dr Lizzi Shires, Director of the Rural Clinical School, said the event helped prospective first-years to make informed decisions about higher education study.
“The transition between Year 12 and university can be a significant step for many students, so it is important that they are well supported as they prepare to commence their first semester,” Dr Shires said.
“We provide information about scholarships, accommodation and study pathways.
“The event is attended by medical interns who share their experiences of studying throughout the degree, as well as the opportunities to return to the region to complete their final years of training at our clinical school in Burnie.”
