Industrial Engagement

To deliver graduates who have the practical experience demanded by employers, our undergraduate and postgraduate study options contain a range of built-in and optional industrial engagement experiences.

12-Week Placement

The flagship of our engagement experiences is the 12-week placement that all Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) students undertake as part of their studies. Most commonly you will complete this in the summer between your 3rd and 4th years, and we are often able to assist in finding placements where you will also be paid.

Due to our long standing connections with companies both in Tasmania and mainland Australia, your placement is tailored to your specific engineering area of interest, which gives you not just experience, but valuable networking opportunities. Many students are offered graduate positions with the companies they are placed in once they graduate.

Research opportunities

Our highly active research strengths also present you opportunities for industrial engagement while you study. Many projects are undertaken where undergraduates can volunteer to get involved, some as extra-curricular activities, and others counting towards your degree.

This applied research experience is invaluable in helping you gain a full appreciation of the outcomes of your specialisation of choice, and as with the placements, also can deliver valuable networking opportunities to help you with your future career.
