Small Business Symposium Series 2019

A collaborative approach to supporting growth and productivity in Tasmania’s small business sector

Tasmania’s business community is almost entirely comprised of small to medium enterprises (97%) operating across a range of different sectors. It has a reputation for entrepreneurship, innovation and resilience. Small business faces challenges that are known (such as an ageing and changing population, distance from markets, increasing cost of living, workforce competition) and emerging (technology and changing skills needs).

In recognition of this the University of Tasmania, College of Business and Economics has convened a series of small business symposiums working with partners and stakeholders in each region to provide an opportunity to hear speakers (subject matter experts and local business) present around the themes of:

  • Achieving your goals – setting a strategy and putting a plan in motion;
  • Leveraging you Brand – new markets and opportunities;
  • Productivity and profitability – sustaining a competitive business;
  • Digital change and its impact on business – people, business model and technology.

Importantly the Symposium will also provide time for participants to network and visit a range of stalls/displays from organisations and agencies that can provide support for business.

Individuals thinking of starting a business or in business and seeking to enhance their knowledge and build connections are encouraged to attend.

Organisations that would like a stall/display to promote what they do to small business can register here.
