There are a maximum of five (5) placements available to work as an intern in Parliament House and earn academic credit for the experience of assisting an MP in their work. This is a valuable opportunity for students to use their University level research skills to assist a sitting member of parliament on current policy and community issues.
A significant number of interns have gone on to employment in the public service sector following participation in this program. Placements are competitive and are awarded by the parliamentary internship selection committee solely on the basis of merit.
To be eligible for a Parliamentary placement, candidates must have a CR or better average in the candidate's major field and be enrolled in Third Year or Honours (or eligible 400 level unit).
If you are eligible and wish to apply, please email the School office at Social.Sciences@utas.edu.au with the subject heading "Parliamentary internship placement" by no later than 5pm, 10 July 2019 and ask that they submit to the Unit Coordinator, Dr Richard Herr, a copy of your academic transcript for consideration.
The program will commence with an orientation at Parliament House, Hobart. For further information please contact Dr Richard Herr R.A.Herr@utas.edu.au.
