Elite Athlete to debut in home state

University of Tasmania Student, Nicole Bresnehan selected for North Melbourne’s first round match to be played at North Hobart Oval.

Selected in the 2018 National AFLW draft at pick 61, Nicole’s’ aim was to debut in 2019 but to be selected for Round One in front of her home crowd came as a huge surprise. When talking with the Mercury Newspaper Nicole explained “It is great to play in Round 1 at North Hobart, but I definitely wasn’t aiming for Round 1 — but happy at the same time.”

Originally focused on swimming growing up, the transition to Australian Rules Football occurred three seasons ago when Nicole joined the Clarence Football Women’s team. Being picked up by North Melbourne and getting to play her first game is a huge step forward in Nicole’s career and one she will be able to do in her home state of Tasmania this weekend. Leading in to Sunday’s round opener Nicole says, “The thought of it is quite nerve-racking, but at the end of the day it is just another game.”

Get along to support Nicole and the team this Sunday at North Hobart Oval. Make sure to get a good spot before kick-off at 1.05pm.
