Highest participation at Unisport Nationals in years

The University of Tasmania sent our largest team to date to represent at a national sporting event.

80 University of Tasmania students and support staff traveled to the Gold Coast on Sunday the 7th of July to compete in 7 different sports at the Unisport National competition. A competition held annually by Unisport Australia that attracts over 10,000 university students from across the country.

Making our debut in sports such as tennis and women’s hockey along with returning for Volleyball, Basketball, Badminton, Futsal and Netball, our teams competed strongly in all events against difficult opposition.

Effected by flight delays and then injuries, our teams managed to endure the intense 4-day schedule to come out with excellent results. Most notably, the Women’s Hockey team rallied together to take out the Bronze medal.  A huge congratulation to these girls, their coach Tom Wylie and manager Hayley Koehler on representing UTAS for the first time in this sport at a Unisport event.

Team results:

  • Hockey women - Bronze
  • Badminton men - 5th
  • Tennis men- 11th
  • Basketball men- 21st
  • Futsal women- 7th
  • Netball women - 12th
  • Volleyball men - 8th
  • Volleyball women - 8th
