Partnership Announcement: Judo Tasmania

Judo co-branding

Judo Tasmania and University of Tasmania are working collaboratively in providing a clear pathway for athletes and students from participation through to high performance by utilising the newly created University of Tasmania Judo Centre for Excellence.

We are pleased to announce that Judo Tasmania and University of Tasmania are working collaboratively in providing a clear pathway for athletes and students from participation through to high performance by utilising the newly created University of Tasmania Judo Centre for Excellence (Newnham and Sandy Bay).

The University of Tasmania Judo Centre of Excellence will deliver high performance outcomes and focus by guaranteeing long-term access to a greater range of facilities and services. It will bring Tasmania inline with other States Performance Hubs and the Combat Institute of Australia and offer a program to national and international selection opportunities. The Judo Centre will offer to all coaches and athletes a base to constantly learn and develop training programs and enable each athlete to reach their full potential.

Situated at Unigym Hobart and Unigym Launceston, the Judo Centre for Excellence will provide our talented junior and senior judoka’s with a fully integrated performance environment including a high quality dojo, dedicated strength and conditioning and aerobic room, plus onsite meeting rooms for coach, kata and refereeing seminars. It will become the venue for all weekly state national training.

The Judo Centre will be complimented by regular mid week classes at the newly formed Launceston and Hobart University Judo Clubs.

Please note that there are three separate and distinct projects with Judo Tasmania:
1. The University of Tasmania Judo Centre for Excellence.
2. State training venue.
3. New University of Tasmania Judo clubs – Hobart and Launceston.

Each project is separate, but ultimately connected as combined strategy for a high performance pathway, cost savings, participation growth and a base for future project initiatives.

This working partnership will take effect on the February 1, 2021.
