Club members shine over the weekend with records broken
This weekend highlighted the supremacy of Nick Earl and Milly Clark. As members of the University of Tasmania Athletics Club, these two dominated the Marathon and Half Marathon respectively to claim victory and the state titles. It wasn’t enough to just win though with both athletes breaking the course records on Sunday in a strong field.
Nick, an elite runner and UTAS staff member, decided it was time to shine, taking the lead from the beginning. There was no slowing down with Nick completing the course in 2:18.39, resulting in over 5 minutes removed from the previous record set. What an achievement! An article with Nick detailing his recent accomplishments will be published soon, so keep an eye out.
Not to be outdone, Milly Clark starred in the half marathon with a resounding win at 1:13.01. Leading up to the Tokyo Olympics, Milly’s determination to claim the course record resulted in a reduction of over a minute and the setting of a new Tasmanian Open/All comers record. What is truly amazing however is the fact that Milly decided to compete and win the 10km event as a cool down shortly following her Half Marathon victory with a time of 34:01. Take note that this is an extraordinary accomplishment and Milly will be one to watch in Tokyo later this year in August.
Congratulations to all runners over the weekend and those that utilised the event to raise money for the bush fires and other charities.
