Frisbee Day

On the 27th of March the UTAS Launceston Frisbee Club ran its inaugural Launceston Outdoor Frisbee Tournament. The club plays every Thursday, but enjoyed this opportunity to bring together the Hobart and Launceston clubs for a day of friendly competition. LOFT brought in frisbee players from around the state as well as a visitor from a club in South Australia.

Was great to be given the opportunity to play in a different state. The frisbee community was so welcoming, had amazing banter and awesome connections. Felt like playing back home in SA.” – Belinda, SA

Each player received a coloured shirt and were split into four teams. The weather on the day started out quite wet, but it couldn’t dampen the enthusiasm of the players.

I really enjoyed the event… just the great atmosphere and how enthusiastic and supportive everyone was.” – Harry, Hobart

Fortunately the rain cleared off mid-morning, and all four teams enjoyed a full day of competition. The first two rounds were played before lunch, when all teams took a break and were provided with a BBQ lunch. The final rounds were quite lively, with the White team playing undefeated until the final when they battled it out with Grey only to be closely defeated. Frisbee is self-refereed which generally means there is a great atmosphere to play in, with players all looking out for each other.

I really enjoyed LOFT. All the participants took it just seriously enough which helped make it fun.” – Thea, Hobart

I thought LOFT was run extremely smoothly and was super fun! The organisation was impeccable and I would definitely come back next year” – Liv, Hobart

The competition closed with a few awards being handed out, including Spirit of the game award, most points scored and Sauciest player (for most epic plays over the day). Overall it was well organised day of good friendly fun. Players from novice to experienced were all included, with a small crowd cheering on.

Anyone interested in finding out more or joining the club can find them on Facebook at UTAS Launceston Frisbee Club, or come along on a Thursday night at the rugby fields next to Investigator Hall on the Newnham campus.
