UTAS Makes first Indigenous Nationals Finals Appearance

A team of 13 staff and students recently competed at the UniSport Indigenous Nationals in Perth.

Captained by Taylor Wigg and Jake West, the team competed in four mixed-gender sports: touch football, basketball, netball and volleyball.

The highlight of the week was when the team finished 4th out of 30 in Netball, making the finals stage for the first time since the games began in 1996. Dylan Hoskins critical in the success in Netball competition. Dylan was competing in his third consecutive year.

“I thought it was amazing as always! The competitors, organisers, and team managers are really what make Indigenous Nationals so special and unique!”

“The fact that it’s so grounded in culture makes it highly inclusive for all and something that doesn’t need to be altered or shifted in anyway. It replenishes our spirit for the next coming semester and allows us to create new family pathways”.
