Student and Staff ID and Access Cards

Students require a current University of Tasmania ID card to verify their identity for enrolment, examination and security purposes and to utilise Library and printing services. We will provide a Student ID card to each student free of charge for approximately the duration of their degree. If a card expires and needs extending, or if there is a problem with a card, we will replace it free of charge. Otherwise, there is a $10 charge to replace lost or damaged cards.

From February 2019, your new Student ID card is also your electronic access card, allowing access to various buildings on campus. If you have a current valid Student ID and separate access card, these will remain active and do not need to be replaced unless the ID card expires.

For information about privacy provisions and cultural considerations, see Declaration Information below.

In most cases your card can be produced when you have a working username and password, or after UConnect processes your form in the case of special programs. You will be classified as a full-time student if that has been indicated at the time of your application.

  • Tip: Your photo should have a plain background and with your head and shoulders clearly visible. If the photo you provide is not suitable (e.g. too small, taken in profile or partial profile or with an inappropriate background, pose or accessories), a replacement one will be requested of you.

You then have a number of options for collecting your combined ID and Building Access Card:

Collect your card from an ID Kiosk machine at the Morris Miller and Launceston (Newnham) Campus Libraries.

  • Your card will be available to collect once you receive the verification confirmation email.
  • Take your card to the UConnect service point to have your 24/7 Library access encoded.
