Nursing Orientation

Study Period 1

Orientation Countdown

Your introduction to university life.

Your orientation is a interactive multi day program, where you can explore everything the University of Tasmania has to offer. We have developed a jam-packed orientation program for each campus, where you will attend compulsory and opt-in sessions to get you prepared, excited and feeling confident for your first semester of study.

Commencing students are encouraged to attend all activities (compulsory and opt in) for a immersive introduction to studying at the University of Tasmania.

Orientation program overview

It is compulsory for you to attend the two sessions below:

  • Bachelor of Nursing Orientation (Lunch included)
  • Professional Experience Placement (PEP) Compliance Workshop

It's also highly recommended that you participate in the other sessions offered across the program. You only need to attend one of each session.

Each day you'll have the opportunity to speak with a Student Adviser about your course and study plan -  including how to choose what units to enrol in. Student Advisers can also help with academic progress and personal issues that might impact your study.

Orientation FAQ's

Yes, attendance at the Bachelor of Nursing Orientation is required as it will provide you with all the information you need to be fully prepared to commence your studies.

More information on this in Ask Us.

If you are genuinely unable to attend, some information will be provided following the on-campus Orientation, but it may not fully prepare you for your course. If you are unable to attend the Wednesday morning Orientation, you may be able to attend some of the workshops. We recommend that you review the Orientation schedule and register for any workshops you can attend to ensure you are fully prepared for your coursework.

If you're unable to attend orientation on the day, you can find orientation information and more in:

Becoming a Registered Nurse (BaRN) MyLO site has been created to provide you with a central location for information relating to the BN course. It will help you preparing your study, timetable, professional experience placement (PEP) and Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra) registration.

UniStart is a short online unit that contains information about our key services and support available to you, and introduces you to your course and college orientation materials.

  1. A smart device (such as a tablet, or laptop) can be useful to have at orientation. You may need to access online resources or take notes during the orientation sessions, and a smart device can make it easier to do so.

  2. Other items you may want to bring to orientation include:

  • Pen and paper or a notebook for taking notes
  • A water bottle and snacks to keep you hydrated and fueled during the orientation sessions
  • Comfortable shoes, as you may be walking around campus or standing for long periods of time
  • Any necessary documents or materials, such as identification or immunisation records, etc. for the PEP Compliance Workshop.

The Tasmanian University Student Association has over 130 clubs and societies for students to join, ranging from acrobatics to zero waste and everything in between.

The biggest event of the year for these clubs is Clubs and Societies Day, which takes place during the first week of the semester and is a great opportunity for students to sign up for their favorite clubs and meet new people. Joining a club or society is a great way to build networks, make lasting friendships, and have fun while at university.
