Details

Philip Gerrit Wolfhagen artist. A painter who lives and works in Longford, Philip Wolfhagen is recognised nationally for his landscapes in oil and beeswax on linen. He completed his Bachelor of Fine Arts at the Tasmanian School of Art in 1987, and postgraduate studies at the Sydney College of the Arts in 1990. Seeking the essence of the land, Wolfhagen walks and camps in wild places, favourites being Tasmania's Central Highlands and the Great Western Tiers. In 2002, Wolfhagen lived and worked on Deal Island's rocky archipelago in Bass Strait, a monumental triptych resulting from this sojourn. Wolfhagen's paintings continue to show a concern for the relationship between nature, abstraction and the spiritual in landscape. Represented in major public collections, Wolfhagen regularly holds solo exhibitions.
