A new risk simulator program has been developed to help Australian sheep graziers make on-farm management decisions relating to control of sheep flystrike.
TIA Researcher Dr Brian Horton contributed to the development of the FlyBoss Flystrike Risk Simulator program, which was launched on 31 August 2020.
This updated program is suitable for on-farm use for management decisions relating to control of sheep flystrike and is an integral part of a program to reduce mulesing by improved management and breeding of sheep to avoid strike.
This program estimates the risk of flystrike then makes adjustments for:
- management options such as shearing and crutching
- breech modification
- chemical preventive treatments including optimising the timing of treatments
- effect of breeding for reduced breech strike
