The Tasmanian Institute of Agriculture (TIA) last week hosted a one-day tour for year 11 and 12 students looking to study Agricultural Science as part of the Feed Your Mind, Feed the World experience.
Four locations were visited on the day including Stefano Lubiana Wines, Reid Fruits, Ivanhoe Dairy and Cracknell Glasshouse Tomatoes with a BBQ lunch at the Salmon Ponds.
Student Outreach coordinator, Dr Stephen Quarrell, said the tour was a great opportunity for students to learn about the diversity of agricultural careers and opportunities.
“We had a great day out with the students who said the tour really changed their perspective about what studying agriculture is all about. It’s not just paddocks and tractors, there are so many areas of study or careers to choose from like wine research, food safety or microbiology,” he said.
