University of Tasmania agriculture graduate, Madeline Way, received a prestigious $120,000 Westpac Future Leaders Scholarship to continue research into Tasmania’s cider industry.
Madeline’s PhD project will continue research that she started as an honours student, looking at different apple varieties and how pre-treatments could improve the quality of the apple juice for cider making.
Tasmania’s cider industry continue to be closely engaged in this research and have already adopted some of the findings.
“It’s great to work on a project that is aligned with the needs of industry. I really enjoy getting out into the field, working with industry and finding out more about this emerging industry and how it can be supported through science,” Madeline said.
