Project name | Investigating opportunities to influence gut microbiota in farmed Atlantic Salmon |
Funding bodies | Tassal Pty Ltd, CSIRO |
Lead researcher | Professor John Bowman |
Student | Chantelle Reid |

A collaborative PhD research project between TIA, Tassal Pty Ltd and CSIRO aimed at trying to better understand what influences farmed Atlantic salmon gut microbiome and potential opportunities for altering current practices to improve health and productivity.
The gut microbiome is a dynamic entity and its colonisation and development is known to be influenced by a variety of factors. There are three specific research areas this project focuses on; 1) gut microbiome development and characterisation, 2) review of current methods for microbiome and digestive status sampling and 3) supplementing alternative protein source diets with prebiotics.
