Peter Underwood Centre

Education, perhaps more than anything else, is the passport to a better life.

Welcome to the Peter Underwood Centre for Educational Attainment, dedicated to supporting Tasmanian young people to flourish through the transformative power of learning.

Named after The Honourable Peter Underwood AC, 27th Governor of Tasmania, our Centre focuses on helping disadvantaged communities.

We use research, practical support, and partnership programs to improve learning outcomes for children and young people inside and outside of school.

Our core principles

Education is everyone’s business

Learning can happen anywhere

We can all learn by listening to children and young people

Equity is at the heart of achieving educational success

Putting child safety courses on everyone's radar

The Peter Underwood Centre has worked with a wider group of University of Tasmania researchers and staff to develop two free evidence-informed courses on child rights and child safety to equip people with the skills and awareness to keep children safe.
