Professional Experience 1 EMT500
Introduction
The first Professional Experience (PE1) provides pre-service teachers the opportunity to become
familiar with the school context. PE1 primarily involves active observation, discussions with the
supervising teacher and initial school experiences. It is conducted over the course of one week (5
days) on a full-time basis.
Throughout the placement pre-service teachers are required to maintain professional files, which
contain observations, policy documents, teaching resources and personal reflections on their own
experience. The placement is connected to Professional Experience 2 (PE2) in which the students
return to the same school and same class room/teacher (where possible) for a further 2 weeks (10
days).
