HECS Waiver & Fees

For students who were admitted in the Bachelor of Dementia Care PRIOR to 31st December 2017, the following information is applicable.

The College of Health and Medicine is pleased to advise that HECS Waivers remain available for current students who have commenced the Bachelor of Dementia Care prior to 31 December 2017.

Depending on each students’ progression through the course as at 31 December 2017, 100% HECS Waivers will remain available to the next available and eligible exit point, – i.e. Diploma (8 completed units), Associate Degree (16 completed units) or Bachelor of Dementia Care (24 completed units).

A 50% HECS Waiver will apply for any additional units studied after the first eligible exit point.

For students who were admitted in the Bachelor of Dementia Care between 1 January 2018 and 31 December 2020 the following information is applicable.

The College of Health and Medicine is pleased to advise that a HECS waiver is available for students who commenced the Bachelor of Dementia Care after 1 January 2018.

A 100% HECS Waiver will be available for all eligible students up to the completion of the first 8 units within the Bachelor of Dementia Care.

A 50% HECS Waiver will apply for students wishing to continue their studies beyond the Diploma level (8 completed units) toward the Associate Degree or Bachelor level.

For students who were admitted in the Bachelor of Dementia Care from 1 January 2021 onwards the following information is applicable.  

From 2021 onwards new 100% HECS Waivers are no longer offered within the Bachelor of Dementia Care course. For all students.

To remain eligible for the full and part HECS waiver amount, students must continue to meet the following eligibility criteria:

  1. Be an Australian citizen or permanent resident (i.e. eligible for a Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP)).
  2. Enrol in the Dementia Care Program and commence at least one unit within the first year of admission.
  3. Enrol in a minimum of one unit per calendar year (extenuating circumstances may be considered by the College of Health and Medicine outside condition 3 on a case-by-case basis).
  4. Pay the relevant Student Services and Amenities Fees for all units.
  5. Not be excluded from the course based on academic progress or misconduct.

Students with Permanent Residency in Australia are eligible for the HECS Waiver; however they are not able to get a HELP loan or be eligible for FEE Help.
