Supporting the residential aged care workforce for COVID-19 recovery

Within the current pressures and difficulties faced by Australian society during COVID-19, and with increasing community and media attention on the aged care sector, the Australian aged care workforce has continued to provide physical, psychological, and emotional support and care for people living in residential aged care facilities (RACFs). Notably, their voices have at times been missing in the examinations of the aged care sector, including how their work role in providing care has impacted them personally and professionally during COVID-19.

Respecting and supporting the aged care workforce is crucial for recognising their contributions as essential workers, for safeguarding satisfying work, and ensuring the needs of people living in aged care are met.

This project responds to challenges around marginalisation of people working in RACFs by ensuring that their voices are respected and heard through exploring the personal and professional impacts of COVID-19 through one-hour semi-structured interviews with people working in Tasmanian RACFs during COVID-19. Participants receive a $20 Coles/Myer gift card. If you would like to be involved in this project, please contact Peta Cook (Peta.Cook@utas.edu.au or 6226-4726).

The project has received partial funding from the Clarence City Council. Outcomes will include a report containing recommendations that will be presented to Clarence City Council as well as Tasmanian residential aged care facility providers.
